- In the mid-1940s, the Eameses applied the same breakthrough technology they used to create their famous molded plywood chairs to produce this simple, lightweight, imaginative table and it impressed Nelson so much that he told Herman Miller president to hire them.
- De Pree finally succumbed, after some time being unconvinced, that his small company needed another designer and went to see their pieces when they were being shown at the Museum of Modern Art. Soon, the Eameses were hired and designing for Herman Miller.
